CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Rachel Claudius
Canon: God Eater 2
Canonpoint: Post-Rage Burst ending.
Character Age: This is not stated in canon! I'd put her as about 25, though her growth and maturity has been accelerated due to biological modification, so she would look more like 30.
Appearance: Here.
Rachel received a spinal injury that left her paralyzed from the waist down as a child. However, the Aragami Bias Factor healed her injury near the end of her canon. As she will have her superhuman biology removed in the game, I choose to partially revert this disability to one that weakens her ability to walk and run. She will likely need a cane to move about. Her eyes will also return to blue, from red, reflecting this change.
Background/History: Character wiki page. The game wiki page lacks a lot of information so the best plot summary is on her own wiki page and that of her son.
Strengths: You should list and extrapolate on at least three characteristics. This should be personality-based, not powers. We want to see how you interpret these characteristics.
Weaknesses: You should list and extrapolate on at least three characteristics. This should be personality-based, not powers. We want to see how you interpret these characteristics.
Fatal Flaw: This may or may not be literal in your canon; what we want to see is your character’s defining flaw, whether it be their ego, fear, et. al.
Driving Force: What is your character’s defining motivation? Do they act out of love? Revenge? Justice? Tell us what drives your character and why.
On the surface, Rachel presents herself as a soft-spoken lady. Her speech can be a bit flowery at times, but she's very gentle and considerate of the well-being of the people she works with. Due to an accident in the past, she now sits on a wheelchair and it adds further to the 'fragile flower' impression that she gives. She's also very intelligent, becoming a top researcher in Fenrir despite her relative youth at twenty-five, and has engineered many improvements for the betterment of the God Eaters. She acts as the surrogate mother for all the teenagers that join her elite team, and tells them that she has prepared them for a greater destiny as heroes. If anything happens to them, or they feel sad, she would be there to reassure them and give them guidance on what she thinks they should do next. Most of the time, it works out. Mother knows best, after all.
But really, there is a profound sense of irony in what befalls the people who listen to her. Rachel's motherly aura is not faked, it comes genuine from her heart. However, what most of the characters fail to notice is that she thinks her motives and actions are good, but they may not necessarily be good to the people who they affect. Rachel was given an injection of Aragami Bias Factor when she was young to rescue her from a coma, and it left her with a lifelong Aragami corruption in her mentality. She single-mindedly pursues the voices in her head and what they tell her to do, which is to create an Aragami that would devour the whole planet and restart it from zero. All her research and nurturing potential teenagers was not to make them good God Eaters, but to make them good dolls to play with. She sees everyone around her as puppets to be used for her grand plan, and displays a reckless lack of any morals as long as it furthers her plans. Her determination to pursue her goals is also impressive, as she was able to push an almost impossible process of biological engineering to completion without any breaks in between. This could be due to her corruption, but also shows that Rachel by herself has great tenacity.
Rachel is frighteningly smart and perceptive, to the point of managing to deceive the government as well as the people whom she used until her plan was complete. Her emotional manipulation was used the most on the children that she gathered for her goals, discarding imperfect kids one after the other as soon as she found a better one. The perfect child for her experimentation thus was given the most attention, and she was so efficient at breaking him that he never questioned any of her orders until his imminent death. Even after Julius was rescued from her clutches, he would continue to live on with mental trauma that haunts him for life. All this was okay in Rachel's eyes as it was done to better the lives of humanity by devouring them and allowing a new world order to rise in its place. She may be kind, but her kindness always comes with strings attached and her love as a mother is one of the most twisted of all. In this sense Yuggoth is kind of a perfect setting for her as she has no qualms to kill as long as it advances her plans. She even comes with corruption already!
Patron: Vesta.
Rachel is a mother at heart, and she will be coming into the game free from her possession. Without the force of the Aragami tainting her motivations, she is free to pursue her own goals and continue her wish of taking care of others. Her lack of combat abilities and crippling injury means that she is unable to step onto the front lines, thus she must remain behind at the home and hearth to tend to it when the warriors return. Her knowledge base, while leaning towards the medical and engineering topics, were partly learned for the purpose of protecting humanity and creating homes for them that could stand up to the Aragami attacks.
While I did consider Juno as a potential patron, most of her manipulative skills and traits were displayed under the influence of the Aragami to further their goals. Now that she is free from that curse, she can return to her 'true persona' of caring for others using her knowledge. Thus she would be fitting for Vesta over Juno.
GAME INFORMATION
Setting Suitability: Rachel will be coming in after her death and free of the possession that haunted her for much of her life, so it will be a very new experience for her. She lacks motivation or any significant goals after purification (and also that she accepts she can never go home), so her kindness will compel her to stay with the Gods and see if her knowledge can be of use.
As she has regained her humanity, she would feel a great deal of guilt towards what she did in the past under the influence of the Aragami. With time, I hope to explore this through interactions with other characters, and the game's character base seems to have a good number of people who will be able to understand what she goes through, and help or hinder her in the process.
